SRGBmods Pico LED Controller

Introduction

The SRGBmods Pico LED Controller is a DIY (do it yourself) ARGB controller exclusively designed to be used with SignalRGB!

Its base is an affordable - yet powerful - Raspberry Pi Pico micro-controller that makes it possible to drive up to 1024 leds (2 channels with 512 leds max each).

A massive amount of 26 pins can be used to connect your devices to it!

Useful information that might save you some hassle and trouble shooting:

For maximum performance it is recommended to equally spread your connected leds to Channel1 and Channel2!
Currently only WS2812B is supported officially.
If you are running more than 100 leds off one pin, you are using a lot of pins, or your leds are flickering, you will need a Adafruit NeoPXL8 Friend (Level-Shifter) to step up to the WS2812B's 5V data line logic from the Pi Pico's 3.3V pin logic.

Please keep in mind that lots of LEDs will draw a lot of power, make sure to check the specs of the used PSU and calculate the required wattage/amperage for your project.

General settings

Enable Hardware Lighting

Return to Hardware Lighting when Signal is NOT controlling it after seconds

Open the downloaded file with Arduino IDE, compile it and copy it to your Raspberry Pi Pico!

Required software:
- SignalRGB Open Beta
- Arduino IDE (make sure NOT to use the Windows App Store version!)

Installing the required libraries:
- Launch Arduino IDE
- Click "Tools" -> "Manage Libraries..." to open the Library Manager.
- Click "File" -> "Preferences" to open settings menu.
- Click "Tools" -> "Board:" -> "Boards Manager..." to open the Boards Manager.

Setting up our Pi Pico:
- Click "Tools" -> "Board:" -> "Raspberry Pi RP2040 Boards" and select "Raspberry Pi Pico".
- Click "Tools" -> "CPU Speed:" and select "133 Mhz".
- Click "Tools" -> "USB Stack:" and select "Adafruit TinyUSB".
- Click "File" -> "Quit"

Patching the FastLED library to support the Raspberry Pi Pico:
- Download THIS zip-archive and extract it into the FastLED folder:
  %userprofile%\Documents\Arduino\libraries\FastLED\

Flashing the Pi Pico:

Generate and download the sketch file that we will flash to our Pi Pico.
Launch Arduino IDE.
Click "File" -> "Open..." browse to the folder you downloaded the generated Sketch, select it and click "Open".
The Arduino IDE requires sketch files to be in a correctly named subfolder, so confirm the dialogue asking to move the file to the correct folder with "OK".
Click "Sketch" -> "Export compiled binary" in the Arduino IDE window that opened.

Compiling the sketch takes a few seconds, so just wait and have an eye on the status at the bottom of the window, you can ignore the warnings that might be displayed.

Once it says "Done Compiling." you will find the compiled binary in the folder it move the sketch to.
Click "File" -> "Quit"
Put your Pi Pico into boot mode with disconnecting it and holding its "BOOTSEL" button while reconnecting it.
Copy the compiled binary (SRGBmods_Pico_LED_Controller_[TIMESTAMP].ino.rpipico.uf2) to new the flash drive that appeared. The Pi Pico will reboot and load the binary.
Launch SignalRGB, click "Devices" and select the SRGBmods Pico LED Controller to configure it.
